HOW TO USE THE CURRICULUM

The Money Academy Curriculum is interdisciplinary, drawing from math, social studies, language arts, and life skills. Throughout the program, students use social studies, math, and language arts skills and use them in practical applications for life skills and leadership development. They explore money in the context of how money works and how they can use it to create a future of financial stability and responsibility.

The manual is organized by session and includes a section for definitions and academic standards that are met within our program. Each session contains three components:

  1. An Overview page that highlights the objectives of the lesson, the key concepts of the session, materials that are needed, and how to set up the room. We also include an outline of the content of the lesson with suggested times for pacing of session.

  2. A “Note to Teachers” page which provides the background for the session.

  3. The Lesson and Suggestions for the Teacher. The lessons themselves are written in a two column format. The left column contains the content of the sessions; the content is presented in a scripted format. The right column contains suggestions and notes supporting teachers in guiding students through the discussions and concepts; these suggestions help the teacher remain inside of the context of discovery and exploration.
